A terrible loss for all of those who grew up watching her on TV and Film.

News of Michelle Trachtenberg’s passing on Wednesday morning shocked fans and fellow actors alike. The beloved actress, known for her roles in Gossip Girl, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and more, passed away at age 39 in her New York City home, according to police reports. Her representative later confirmed the heartbreaking news. While the cause of her death remains unknown, tributes quickly poured in online and across social media.

Trachtenberg’s final onscreen appearance was in 2022 when she reprised her iconic role as Georgina Sparks in the Gossip Girl reboot on Max.

Rising to stardom as a young actress in the late ’90s and 2000s, Michelle Trachtenberg’s breakout role came as the titular young detective in Harriet the Spy. She later captivated audiences as Dawn Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and as math prodigy-turned-figure skater Casey Carlyle in Disney’s Ice Princess. With additional roles in Inspector Gadget and 17 Again, Trachtenberg worked alongside Hollywood stars such as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Zac Efron, and Rosie O’Donnell.

Following the heartbreaking news of her passing, tributes from friends and former co-stars poured in.

Ed Westwick, who played Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl, honored her memory with an Instagram Story featuring her photo. “So sad to hear of the passing of @michelletrachtenberg,” he wrote. “Sending prayers.”

Kim Cattrall, who portrayed Trachtenberg’s skating coach in Ice Princess, expressed her grief on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “This is heartbreaking. So talented, much too young. RIP Sweet Beauty. xo.” She also shared an Instagram tribute, adding, “Rest in peace, sweet Michelle.”
