Luis Suárez Shines in Inter Miami's Dominant Win Over Dynamo as Messi Rests
Luis Suárez scored once and provided three assists to lead Inter Miami to a commanding 4-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Sunday night. The win marked Inter Miami's first of the MLS season, bringing their record to 1-0-1 (4 points), despite the absence of star player Lionel Messi, who stayed in South Florida to rest.
Miami's head coach, Javier Mascherano, explained the decision to rest the 37-year-old Messi, citing the need for recovery after playing three matches in six days and the demands of a long flight to the West Coast.
The victory was Miami's third across all competitions. They now advance to the round of 16 in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Meanwhile, the Dynamo (0-2-0, 0 points) have started the season with back-to-back home defeats.
Telasco Segovia scored twice and recorded an assist for Inter Miami, while Tadeo Allende netted his first MLS regular-season goal. Suárez's playmaking was instrumental, setting up Miami's first three goals before scoring himself in the 79th minute with a brilliant solo effort.
Praising Suárez's impact, Mascherano described him as one of the top five center-forwards in the world over the past decade, highlighting his influence at clubs like Barcelona, Liverpool, and Atlético Madrid.
Segovia's first goal came in the sixth minute after a defensive error by Houston. Suárez capitalized quickly, delivering a cross to Segovia, who finished past Dynamo goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell. Allende doubled the lead with a well-timed strike following a precise long ball from Suárez. Segovia added his second goal just before halftime, again assisted by Suárez.
Houston's only goal came from Nicolas Lodeiro in the 85th minute, capitalizing on a rebound off Inter Miami's goalkeeper Oscar Ustari. An earlier effort by Houston's Ezequiel Ponce was disallowed for offside.
Tensions flared after the final whistle, leading to a red card for Miami defender Ian Fray following a heated exchange with Houston players.
